will present a concert of traditional and modern Balinese Music and Dance with special guests from Bali, Indonesia, I Ketut Gede Asnawa, his wife Putu Oka Mardiani, and daughters Ayu Putu Niastarika, Ni Made Nias Yunirika and Ni Nyoman Nias Yonitika.

The event will be held at 7:30pm on Saturday June 6 at Pierson Hall in the University Center on the UMKC Campus, 5000 Rockhill Rd, Kansas City MO 64110.  Admission is Free to the public; a donation of $10 is suggested.

I Ketut Gede Asnawa and family were the founders of Gamelan Genta Kasturi in 2003 and led the ensemble through 2007.  Mr. Asnawa is currently under appointment as a professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as part of the Center For World Music.

Gamelan is the orchestral musical tradition of Indonesia and involves a large group of metallophones, gongs and drums that perform alone or with dance.  Gamelan Genta Kasturi is an eighteen member community ensemble that operates under the auspices of the UMKC Conservatory’s Community Music & Dance Academy.  More info on Bali and Gamelan can be found at the following website:
